help adding events
how do I add or upload events to myherefordshire.com?
Once you are a registered user you have the
ability to upload or add your own events. Log in using your
username and password, and on the left-hand navigation there is a
menu called 'My Stuff'. Under this menu are a number of options,
one of which is 'Add Event'. Clicking this link will take you to a
page where you can add your own events.
how do I complete the 'Add events' form?
The 'Add an event' form gives you a number of
options to help add your event to the myherefordshire.com listings.
Any fields with a small red star next to them are mandatory and you
must put some information in this field or you will not be able to
submit your event.
Work through the form entering as much information as possible. The
more information you can give about your event, the easier it will
be for other people to find and read about it.
When you have added as much information as you can, ensure you have
read the Terms and
Conditions (use the browser back button to return to
your event), click the checkbox and select the 'submit'
button.
how do I add repetitive or recurring events?
We have created a
help document (182Kb, PDF) to guide you
through adding repetitive or recurring events. This is a
relatively new and complicated feature so if you think it can be
improved, then please do let us know your thoughts.
what kind of events can I upload?
myherefordshire.com is designed to support the
communities within Herefordshire. Therefore we ask that all events
are based or happening within the county boundaries, but these
events could be something you are organising (car boot sale, garage
sale, open garden) or something you are involved in (play, concert,
guided walks). Please do check that the event is not already in the
listings as duplicate entries will not be approved.
what happens when I submit an event?
Once you have completed an 'Add an event' form
and clicked submit, your event is put into 'Pending' status. An
email will have been sent to the moderator, who will check your
contribution complies with the
Terms and
Conditions of the portal. It will be checked for things like
spelling errors, duplicate entries or unsuitable content. If the
event is approved, the status will change to live and the event
will be published in the main event listings. If the event is
rejected, an email will be sent to your email address with a
reason. You will then need to log into the portal and update your
event, making any suggested changes before submitting it again for
approval.

help adding photos
what photos can I submit to myherefordshire.com?
myherefordshire.com is designed to support the
communities within Herefordshire. We are therefore looking for
photographs of anything to do with the county. These could be
wildlife, scenery, activities etc. We do ask that where possible,
there are no identifiable people in your
photograph. This is due to copyright reasons with publishing on the
Internet. If you do wish to upload photographs containing
identifiable people or information then you will need to send us a
signed consent form. This process is in place to protect the
identity of individuals and also to protect identity fraud.
You will need to get consent for the photo to be
used by all identifiable people in the photograph. If group
photographs are organised, we will need a separate consent form for
each identifiable person in the photo.
Consent form for adults (18+) (PDF -
65Kb)
Consent form for children (PDF - 57Kb)
Please ask the person who is identified in the
photo to enter their details on the form and sign it. You should
then send it to us at the address given at the bottom of the form.
Please include some details about the photo to help us identify
which photo the form relates to. Once you have sent us the form,
you can submit the photo though myherefordshire.com and it will
remain as pending until we receive the completed form.

how do I resize my photos?
myherefordshire.com has limits on the size and
resolution of photos that can be uploaded into the galleries. The
maximum size of photos that can be uploaded is 250Kb. At the same
time the maximum resolution of images is 800 pixels wide by 600
pixels high. If you photo exceeds either of these limits, you will
get a message stating that your photos cannot be uploaded. You then
need to open your photograph in a graphics or image manipulation
package and resize, crop or reduce your image until it fits into
these guidelines. In the future we hope to be able to provide these
simple services within myherefordshire.com when you upload your
photos.
what happens when I submit a photo?
Once you have completed the 'Add photo' form and
clicked submit, your photo is put into 'Pending' status. An email
will have been sent to the moderator, who will check your

before submitting it again for approval.
what is my photo quota and can I change it?
Once you have submitted a photo your uploading
allowance will decrease by one. Initially this limit is set at 20
photographs. If you reach your limit and feel you would like to
continue adding photographs then please email
enquiries@myherefordshire.com
and we may be able to increase your limit. This will depend on the
type, subject, quality and frequency of your uploaded
photographs.

how do I complete my profile?
The information you enter in your Who's Who

Star next to them, the rest are mandatory. However you submission

When completing your Who's Who profile, you can

why doesn't my browser display the web site properly?
In order to support as wide a range of browsers
as possible and allow users of all abilities (including those with
a visual impairment or physical disability) to access
myherefordshire.com, the site has been developed according to
recognised standards set down by the WWW consortium website
.
One of these standards is for the use of
Cascading Style Sheets so that the site supports any browser that
in turn supports this standard. Some browsers, particularly earlier
versions, either do not, or only partially support, this standard.
These browsers might not display the site text and graphics
properly. We have taken steps to minimise adverse effects.
what if I don't have one of the recommended browsers?
This website has been designed to support as wide
a variety of browser and operating system combinations as possible.
Browsers such as Microsoft Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator

site and use the pages, but might not display the site as designed,
nor provide the user with the best experience of using the website.
Most browser suppliers will allow you to upgrade for free, either
because they don't charge for their browser or because you have
bought a previous version. To upgrade your browser go to the
supplier's web site and follow the instructions provided.

PDF files and Adobe Acrobat
what is Acrobat Reader?
Some webpages are not written in HTML but in a
special format called Portable Data Format (PDF). Browsers cannot
display PDF documents so you will need a plug-in program called
Adobe Acrobat Reader. This program lets you magnify and find screen
text. It is freely available from the Adobe website.
The Adobe Acrobat Reader download is also
commonly available on CD-ROMs and is often preloaded on computers.
We have provided links to help you get the Adobe Reader wherever we
have made a PDF available.
Download Adobe Acrobat
If you experience problems viewing a PDF it may
be worth checking which version of Adobe Reader you have and seeing
if a more recent version will help.

RSS feeds
what is an RSS feed?
RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication, or
sometimes Rich Site Summary or RDF Site Summary. RSS feeds or
streams are a method for sharing frequently updated information,
such as news feeds or event listings. You need a piece of software
called a 'reader' or 'aggregator' which will then check the feeds
on your behalf and display any updated information.
viewing/reading RSS feeds
There are numerous sources for RSS readers and
you can choose between standalone programs, free web-based readers,
or alternatively many browsers have RSS readers already built in.
Different news readers work on different operating systems, so you
will need to choose one that will work with your computer. Some
example are given below, but note new readers and versions are
appearing all the time;
myherefordshire.com has a number of available RSS
feeds which allow you to keep up to date with our content without
actually visiting the website. The RSS feeds are identified on the
site by a
icon. We are currently limiting the number of
results per RSS feed to 500, but this could be increased by
request if necessary.
Many RSS readers just ask for a URL for the RSS
feed. To get this URL, right-click on the RSS icon for the feed you
wish to use, and 'Copy Shortcut'. For example if you wanted the
feed for Events happening this month, navigate to that tab on the
events page, right-click on the icon on that page and 'Copy
Shortcut'. Then paste this URL into your RSS reader. NB: Some
mobile phone and PDA RSS readers are case sensitive so ensure you
enter the URL exactly as it is from myherefordshire.com.
There is some more information on adding RSS
feeds to common websites, such as Google, MSN and AOL, on the
get involved
page.

access multimedia zones on the web. No plug-ins are needed to
access myherefordshire.com, although some might be needed for
accessing audio, video or special file formats on websites to which
we link.
Some external websites may offer you a download
of the plug-in needed to view the site. Where this is the case you
should receive clear instructions on screen. Be aware there may be
legal and system requirements you need to satisfy.
